Fire, flood danger looms greater than ever In struggle between man and nature, nature will win. If the images evoked by the following stories are disconcerting and uncomfortable, good. It seems our community needs the jolt. Over the next few days, The Sun’s reporters and photographer will be taking readers on a journey through the “Unnatural Disasters” of San Bernardino County. They have traveled from Big Bear to Arizona and Missouri, from Lake Tahoe to South America in search of answers. The causes, results and tragedy of these phenomena will be explored and solutions proposed.

There has to be a better way to approach the fires than we will just clean up after them. Forest thinning is crucial, but proper development in these danger zones is also critical.
